Feb 2017...what a variety

Feb was full of all kinds of things...Joel has been helping me with teaching a class to homeschoolers about wheelchair accessiblity. We enjoyed some of the Bama Gymnastics meets; We found fireworks left over from New Years and decided we can always think of a reason to celebrate even on a cold/drizzly Sunday night in Feb!; Valentines came and we got to celebrate with each kid in a special way. Mrs. Patsy and her husband Mr. Jim were/are our marriage mentors from church and they love on our kids like they are one of their own grandkids. Claire got some Chacos and thought I should have some too and we decided we'd walk together through life doing our best to follow the Lord! Here's some fun pics!

January highlights

We had a good bit of fun this month! Slow start back to school with a sheet of ice across our area. We seized what we could to put together toddler ice man! MLK weekend was the 2nd annual Henderson/Carver trip to Wilderness in the Smokies in Sevierville! Thanks Big Daddy for making it happen! Part of the trip included a visit to one of the Seveirville Fire Stations! Saw a truck from the 1930s! Joel is STILL obsessed with all things fire station! Jeff and I celebrated our birthdays and enjoyed treats from the kids, dinner out, and I enjoyed a night with 2 very dear friends - Heather and Alisa --had to welcome them in to their 40s! We wrapped up the month wiht a surprise trip to the circus...last once since it is dissolving. Claire loved it...Joel not so much "too loud!" Thankful for good times with my people!

Christmas Season 2016

Here's our December in a nutshell! Looks like we did a lot but we really enjoyed ourselves! Not too rushed...Keller book was great to read along the month to keep focused on Christ (along with the Bible of course!). Lots of fun with school activities...Loved picking a few fun things to do with friends like the Polar Express train ride! We were learning to BE a Santa to some who needed some love and generosity...We were working through giving gifts and getting gifts...Joel and Claire are at absolutely FUN ages for Christmas! I know we only get to do this as parents for a few years so we will soak it up! I love our little traditions...Loved being at home with our family around. Loved being able to worship at church on Christmas Sunday Morning! Loved being reminded that we celebrate the deity of Christ and not the infancy of Christ! It was a hot Alabama Christmas at 70+degrees but would not change a thing! Here's our highlights

Lots of fun in Baton Rouge! Saw some firestations...lots of laughs with cousins and celebrated Big Daddy's 70th a few days early. Got to see some of my family on the journey home! So much to thank God for!

October Actvities

Great weather, great activities and great kids made for great fun in October. Joel and I enjoyed trips to beautiful Aldridge Gardens and the Zoo (focus was train ride). We had family visits from Big Daddy and my cousin Mary Morgan. We made a visit to Baton Rouge for the LSU/Ole Miss game and was not complete without a harvest fest at grandmommy and granddaddy's church. Other trips included a fun beach trip I got to take to celebrate a dear friend Julie. She and I met 10 years ago on a plane en route to Ghana, West Africa for a Wheels for the WorldMission trip and have remained good friends ever since. if you find mutual friendship rooted in Christ-like love and encouragement, you don’t take lightly. Visiting Jeff’s cousin Chris and his wife Tawni was great. He is a colonel in the USAF and lives on base at Maxwell AFB. Great experience for us all! October also brought GVES Harvest fest, pumpkin patches, Trunk or Treat at our church, Trick or Treat in the neighborhood and now way too much candy! The 2 cherries on top of the cake this month included major milestones for Claire- learning to ride her bike without training wheels and the loss of the first tooth! She lost it at school and was so excited that she called everyone she could think of and told all her friends. Her joy over growing up has been contagious! Thank you Lord for this abundant life you have given us!! Enjoy the highlights

Go Team USA

The Lakeshore Foundation hosted a community event - "The Road to Rio" where the community could come learn about the events of the Paralympics, participate in some "events" and even meet some former medal winners from previous Paralympics. We met the Hinton Family there and participated in wheelchair basketball, seated volleyball, Bocchia, Goalball, and learned how people who handcycle train to compete. We got to do stretches with athletes and touch and feel lots of special equipment. The people are what make it...kind, compassioate, competitive, AWESOME people who compete at very high levels...Truly amazing what people can do, despite their challenges. As our friend Mary Allison says (Gold Medal in Wheelchair Basketball), "There is no physical limit to human achievement!". Way to go TEAM USA! It really expanded our horizons and deepened our worldview and appreciation for people and how life can be lived.
