Joel at 4 months
Joel is 4 months old today and doing great. He weighs 14#, 4oz and is 24.5" long (50th% for both). He is holding his head up very well, enjoys tummy time, can roll over from tummy to back some, likes sitting in his Bumbo Seat, and has found his feet. He laughs a lot and makes lots of babbling talk - of all the world's events I'm sure! He has a little baby eczema that all babies have I think. We took him to a pediatric ophthalmologist about his eyes and he has what is called Congenital Motor Nystagmus, which is hereditary through my family. The MD said all looks great and he should function very well but his eyes will likely rhythmically bounce back and forth horizontally all of his life. She will monitor him for a long time and do further tests as he ages but for now, we have no worries of his visual abilities.
He seems to be enjoying day care and his big sis checks on him as she walks by his room at lunch time. She is very protective of him and seems to have a very caring heart toward him. She likes to run care for him if he's crying. He slept through the night by around 10-12 weeks for about 2 weeks then started backing up eating lots during the middle of the night. I thought maybe "growth spurt" but according the the pediatrician he had gotten his daytime and night time eating needs backwards. So we are weaning that nighttime bottle.
I had to have oral surgery about 3-4 weeks ago that had a few complications (Better now!) but that effected milk production so Joel is now on full formula and doing well. It's bitter sweet because I would love to have given him my milk longer but I don't miss being tied to the MEDELA Machine 5 times/day! I'm sure by the time Claire has babies, breast pumps will be the size of an IPhone :))
Jeff and I are a good team on balancing the kids and bathing and feeding, playing transporting, etc...but we do look forward to when they go down at the same time and we can get our time back together at night. Soon and very soon!
We are having photos made soon so check back soon and hope you are all doing well! THanks for your interest in our family!
