Our 2nd attempt to bring some Louisiana culture to the BBQ and Quesadilla flooded Birmingham area. It was a perfect evening of breezy 70s weather but most fun were the people! We had 10 couples from our Sunday School class and add their 8-10 kids running around and 5 sets of our wonderful neighbors. Jeff and I enjoyed the day of preparation and implemented lessons learned from last year...mainly allow 2 hours for the pot of water to boil! We have not quite mastered how to transfer the live crawfish from being immersed in water for their "purging" back to an empty can for draining. We had about 100 that landed on the driveway - thankfully they are not fast moving creatures! My crawfish factoid of the day was that they walk backward! Weird! We enjoyed our teamwork of working in the kitchen and preparing the outside of the house for our guests. I grilled burgers for the non-crawfish eaters and Jeff put out 3 batches of crawfish, sausage, corn and potatoes. No one went home hungry! Lots of fun getting to know each other more and watching Laura Blake's natural motherly instincts at work as all the kids followed her around all night long playing games. We are blessed with great friends and neighbors to grow with and live with. See you next year! PS: Can an 8 month old try crawfish meat? :))
