Way to Go Big Daddy!

Had to brag on my dad here! His work did a highlight on him on their website. The article was great! Proud of you dad and proud to call you dad! We love you!

Bill Henderson, the Operations Coordinator for MASEP, looks for an opportunity to help someone in every interaction. Working for the public his entire career, Henderson has always been in a position to influence and guide others.

Raised in Winona, Miss., Henderson graduated from Delta State University and began teaching math while coaching baseball and football in the Greenwood (Miss.) public school system. He later returned to Delta State University to obtain a Master of Education in Counseling and eventually a Master of Business. Henderson began work at Greenwood Leflore Hospital as the Human Resources Director, where he remained for 28 years. In February 2004, Henderson joined the SSRC staff and continues to find ways to use his career to help others.

With each position and new achievement of education, Henderson sought to help the people of Mississippi. Within MASEP, Henderson is responsible for the coordination of DUI classes throughout the state as well as training instructors for the class. He works closely with Justice and Municipal courts to schedule classes as well as educating each court’s judges and officers.

Although his position does not deal directly with DUI offenders, Henderson often finds himself in a position to advise them. He is often contacted directly about scheduling conflicts with individuals and finds this as an opportunity to mentor.

“Sometimes we talk about what happened, and even though that is not my role to counsel, we begin talking about their problems and I am able to help them,” Henderson said.

For the past 15 years, Henderson has been a volunteer mentor at several local prisons. He has found that his background in public service has helped him cross over into an area that not many feel comfortable doing.

“It’s my assignment. It’s what I’m supposed to be doing,” Henderson said about his work within the prison system.

Henderson feels his work with prisoners in some way has benefited his position with MASEP. Although the DUI offenders are not always hardened criminals, Henderson knows his experience volunteering in prisons gives him some insight when counseling offenders. MASEP continues to give Henderson a chance to serve Mississippians every day.

“I don’t always do the best that I could,” Henderson said, “but there are always plenty of opportunities to influence people.”

Although he graduated from Delta State University, Henderson considers himself a bulldog and loves supporting Mississippi State athletics. In his free time, Henderson can be found spending time with his four grandchildren. Henderson also enjoys “checking things off” his bucket list, including learning to play the guitar.
