20 years ago today - A Career Started

This is Diane Clark, PT, Phd.  She's the one whom I sat across the desk from in 1996 interviewing for my first PT job at UAB/Spain Rehab Center after graduating from U. Miss. Medical Center.  I was green and young and moving from small town Mississippi to the Magic City with only one friend from school here and barely knowing where I 65 was.  So here I stand 20 years later with the one who saw promise in me and gave me a chance and I pause to give thanks.  We got together to share stories of how our careers have both morphed and changed and how we got to where we are today...both of us can say it's in large part to the outstanding, highly-skilled, caring, devoted, always growing team of therapists we work with at UAB.  I have experienced acute care, rehab and outpatient and now work soley doing custom wheelchair and seating evaluations.  I have never been bored one day at work in all 20 years.  My patients teach me so much and the therapists I'm surrounded by don't get complacent and keep striving to sharpen their skills to best serve people with disabilities of all levels.  So will I!  In many ways I feel as though I'm just getting started.  Thank you Diane and Lisa, Jean and Gayle for investing in me!
