I can't think of a better day to tell you about this weekend than today: 3/3/09 - 2 years exactly since Jeff and I met in person! Look back at all that has happened in your life in 2 years: Amazing isn't it?!
Ever dream about how great it would be to get away and rest and read and relax! I was given just that gift! Here's what happened. Jeff and I woke up on our very first Christmas morning together in the Holiday Inn Express in Starkville, MS. Jeff gave me my gift in a very nice and sweet Christmas card. It was a homemade gift certificate for a weekend getaway of unknown destination to depart 2/27/09 and return on 3/1/09. That weekend was long anticipated and daydreamed about since then. Reality has now occurred. I was told to take Fri afternoon off from work, bring clothes to go out to dinner and relaxing clothes. I would also need "dressed for dinner" type clothes for the ride home on Sunday as well. Hmmmmm - what's he up to? So I took off, packed my bags, got in the car and north on I65 we went and ended up in Florence, AL at the Marriott Shoals. Very nice hotel in the RSA group of hotels very similar to Ross Bridge for you Alabamaians. I really didn't care where we went as long as we were away from the daily grind and Jeff was there. The weather was horrible for being outside and you'll notice we had snow! Oh that we had only gotten snowed in there! The highlights were eating the local fare of Rosie's Cantina (mexican) and a great local Italian place (forgot the name for now), getting a one hour massage (the knots in my neck were like gravel), eating dinner in the Marriott 360 revolving restaurant, and being taken to see Hansel and Gretel by the Birmingham Ballet on Sunday afternoon (that's why I needed the nice clothes on Sunday!). The funnies were getting lost in Florence on Fri night - we had a GPS and it took us toward a road that dead ended into a gravel road. On our way home on Sunday we counted almost 50 churches between Florence and Athens, AL (1 hour drive) - Here's some quotes for you:
"Before life gets too hard to stand - kneel"
"The best wireless connection - Jesus Christ"
"Do you want to be happy? Focus on God."
"Worry stops where faith begins"
"Let prayer precede decision making"
"The Lord provides food for the soul; the line starts inside"
"Exercise daily - Walk with the Lord"
"Life has many choices - Eternity has two"
"Failure is success if you learn from it" Prov. 10:20
But the best one we saw in Hoover just this week: "We may not be Dairy Queen, but we have good Sundaes"
Not sure the marquis are the best sources of theology and I do wonder what people think when they read them or more of what people think when they post them up...but if you had to put a sign out for the passer-by to read, what would it say?
So, maybe we'll go back sometime and get to see the WC Handy Museum and check out more of the local attractions but I really appreciate the opportunity to get away have quality time with Jeff and shut the world out for a day or 2! He truly looks out for me and knows when "it's time!" Thank you, Sweetheart!
