First Road Trip with Claire

We made it! Our first road trip and overnight stay in a hotel with a 9 week old baby. I had to give a talk in Auburn at an Assistive Technology conference and we decided to use it as a trial run on traveling with a baby. So it took me all week to think and prepare to leave home on Friday morning, be ready to give my talk at 1:15 and all that you need for an overnight stay with a baby. It looked like we were moving! Things went very smoothly. (Note: Not all public restrooms are conducive to pumping - I can hear lots of laughter from those who have gone before me!) She did well in the car. A few fussy times but she recovered. We did well all in the same hotel room. I could hear her coos and squirms between 4-6am but I expected that. I guess after your baby is born, mom's get an extra sensitive antenna that tunes in tight. She had her first diaper change in a public restroom at Momma Goldberg's at lunch and we had dinner at Brick Oven Pizza where we met another couple pregnant with baby #2. We had the experience of having to stop halfway home to feed Claire and I had to pump. So we found what little shade was available in Childersburg, AL and Jeff gave her a bottle and I pulled out the "pumping station" in the care and changed the diaper and we continued on. Good experience to see how we'd all do because we make our first journey to Baton Rouge in a few weeks for a long weekend. All I know is you do whatcha gotta do, wherever and whenever you gotta do it when it comes to your baby!
