Dr. William E Hull
He started out as a patient but has become a friend and someone I admire. Dr. Hull has ALS and I got the honor of working with him to provide his power wheelchair. Since he has received it, I have gotten to visit him in his home 4-5 times...the first 2 were work related and the last 3 or so have been to go and say hello and just be around him. He is in his 80s and his voice is not understandable, his body is so weak he can only move some fingers and hold his head up for part of the day. He is on oxygen and is anticipating his 5 year anniversary in August of his diagnosis of ALS. His beautiful wife of >60years died a few months ago. He has 2 adult children with families of their own. His amazing grandson, Andrew, is his primary caregiver and demonstrates the beauty and strength of true service and honor to his grandfather. Dr. Hull is the retired pastor of Mountain Brook Baptist and faculty at Samford's Beeson Divinity School. His faith is shown now more than ever as he stares death in the face. As he has weakened, he has written 3 books, visits weekly with people, prays diligently all with the presence of grace, joy in his eyes, and humility. He is just the kind of person you hope to be in that situation and the kind of person you just like to be around even if for a few minutes. Meet Dr. Hull. Thank you Dr. Hull for living out your faith in Christ, using your days no matter what they are like to serve Him and others, and showing me a real example that it is possible to face death with radiance because of hope for eternity in Heaven with Christ.
